WAGGA trainer Todd Smart will enjoy his first metropolitan runner today when Art Thou Ready steps out at Canterbury.

Art Thou Ready scored a strong win in the $20,000 Stan Sadleir Stakes at Wagga last month and will provide Smart with his first metropolitan runner just six months after gaining his trainer's licence.

Art Thou Ready will contest the $40,000 No Metro Wins Last Year Handicap (1250m) with former Southern District jockey Tim Clark booked to ride.

Smart said he is looking forward to taking a horse to Sydney for a city start.

"I'm very excited, I'm hoping to do well but it's just exciting," Smart said.

"I've been with a lot of city trainers but to have my own runner in the city is an achievement in itself."

Art Thou Ready is rated a $13 chance in early markets.

Smart acknowledges it will be a much harder assignment that Art Thou Ready meets today.

"I'm happy with how everything is going but it's going to be a lot harder there," he said.

"I've got the horse as good as I can, so fingers crossed he can run well.

Smart has a range of options in mind for Art Thou Ready, pending how he performs at Canterbury.
