Todd Smart Racing enjoyed a special moment at Wagga on Thursday, February 8, with Gundy Guy winning his maiden.
Tasked with starting first-up in the 1000m Maiden Plate, fellow Gundagai boy Billy Owen took the ride on the three-year-old.
Jumping with the field, the pair courses two and three wide in order to keep out of trouble, and despite doing some extra work, Gundy Guy powered to a three-quarters-of-a-length victory.
Todd was thrilled after the win.
“We can’t stress how much this win means to us at Todd Smart Racing,” Smart wrote.
“Gundy Guy, named after my hometown of Gundagai, is a special horse owned by many locals, and to see him win and make the town and stable proud, we’re just beyond thrilled.
“A big thanks to good friend and fellow Gundagai boy Billy Owen for steering him home to victory. What a day. Let’s hope there are many more wins to come.”
By Capitilist and out of In Jest (x Your Song), Gundy Guy was a $50,000 purchase at the 2022 Inglis Classic Sale.
A potential star in the making, Todd and the team are now looking ahead at some nice 3YO races for Gundy Guy.
