Following his slashing first start win, Washington Towers, the Todd Smart trained Canberra galloper is set to contest the inaugural $2 million Inglis Millennium on 9 February at Warwick Farm.
The classy colt by first season sire Whittingon was selected by Todd Smart Racing at the Inglis Ready 2 Race sale in October from a draft of 183 lots. Washington Towers is the only Ready 2 Race horse to have won a race leading into the Inglis Millennium, a testament to the horsemanship and training ability of Todd Smart.
The Inglis Millennium is an initiative of Inglis and in terms of prizemoney, is second only to the Golden Slipper in the Southern Hemisphere.
Washington Towers is sitting precariously at number 40 on the list of entrants for the 16 horse field, but this isn’t a concern for Smart, “We feel our horse only needs to earn another $4,000 to gain a start in this race. I have a plan, and we look forward to racing on the 9th of February”. In any event, should Washington Towers not gain a start in the Inglis Millennium there is an alternative 2yo race on the day, the Listed 1,200m Lonhro Plate.
Todd was keen to point out that Washington Towers is owned by over 30 individuals in various syndicates comprising electricians, farmers, hotel operators, entrepreneurs, plumbers, builders, welders, retailers, accountants, lawyers, gym operators, financial planners, property managers and the odd retiree from Gundagai!
As Todd reflects, “racing certainly isn’t for royalty. This game is for everyone, and I want to share this experience with anyone who is keen to get involved.”
Washington Towers is the third winner for Tale of the Cat (USA) stallion Whittington, a brilliant winner of the Listed ATC Breeders Plate that stands at Grandview Stud in Queensland at a fee of $6,600.
Whittington covered his biggest book of 107 mares last spring and has 3 lots on offer at Inglis Classic Yearling Sale in February.
Todd can be reached at 0438 008 907 and would be delighted to discuss any training or breeding requirements with any current or prospective owners.
Todd will again be active at this years Inglis Classic Yearling Sale and encourages any interested owners to attend the sale and inspect prospective lots with him prior to auction day.
